When I stare at the crucifix hanging<\/p>\n
Above the altar at a Catholic friend\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n
I do not see the crown of thorns or<\/p>\n
The five holey wounds.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
All I see is the outline of a lifted up figure,<\/p>\n
Covered in a purple shroud because it is Lent.<\/p>\n
Without context, it could be any stick figure human, god,<\/p>\n
garment hung out to dry, or monster that visits in dreams.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
But this is a Catholic church we\u2019re talking about,<\/p>\n
And Easter is still a couple of weeks away,<\/p>\n
So I know it\u2019s supposed to be Jesus<\/p>\n
Sent to save our souls from our sins.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Hmmm, I think, possibly a lesson here.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Maybe it really is Jesus, but while mourning<\/p>\n
His death and the sins that killed him,<\/p>\n
We also cover his eyes and ears so he<\/p>\n
