Small consolation.

I asked myself several times: where did I go wrong? I mean I tried to play “body slam” and wrestle with him a lot when he was little. I made sure he had lots of toy trucks and even a few plastic guns even though some of my friends looked on in disapproval. I signed him up for soccer and baseball, and…then I remembered; the crossdressing gene was inherited from the other side of the family. I even have the evidence to prove it:

Turns out that in 1979, Eyegal was playing Powderpuff and dabbling a little “on the other side” too. Whew, what a relief; at least it wasn’t something I had any control over.

All jesting aside, I think Number One and his friends have a new appreciation for cheerleaders after a month’s worth of sore muscles and various bumps and bruises. All that hard work payed off though–they were quite good. Just how good? Well check out this short video of Number One’s moves and then this one of the halftime routine (Warning: this video has not yet been rated).

With Title IX and the rise of women’s participation in sports, one can’t be faulted for wondering if relics such as Powderpuff football are somewhat of an anachronism in the early 21st century. Well, go ahead and wonder, I say. This is Huntsville, Alabama, durn it, and we can be anachronistic if we want to! Besides, where else can a young man safely explore his “feminine side” without fear of ridicule or getting the snot beat out of him?

Ready?
