{"id":732,"date":"2007-07-09T06:32:07","date_gmt":"2007-07-09T11:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ocularfusion.net\/?p=732"},"modified":"2022-01-02T07:38:20","modified_gmt":"2022-01-02T12:38:20","slug":"interesting-religious-reads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ocularfusion.net\/?p=732","title":{"rendered":"Interesting Religious Reads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>USA Today<\/em> starts the week off with two interesting religious reads.<\/p>\n<p>First, a report on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/religion\/2007-07-08-sanctuary_N.htm\">growing New Sanctuary Movement<\/a>, a coalition of houses of worship which is providing shelter and protection to illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>Second, it seems at least <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/religion\/2007-07-08-kids-parents-religion_N.htm\">some boomer offspring are outdoing their parents<\/a> when it comes to faith and fervor.<\/p>\n<p>I find the notion that sacred space might still exist and that it might be recognized by civil authorities in this post-everything world intriguing. During the Civil War, Union cavalry soldiers commandeered local Huntsville churches to serve as stables and barracks.<\/p>\n<p>Well, except for one. Above the front door of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity is a marble inscription&#8211;&#8220;Reverence My Sanctuary&#8221;&#8211;taken from Leviticus 26:2. When a Union officer read that, he refused to enter and decided to risk the wrath of his immediate superior rather than his Ultimate One. Could such a scene be repeated today? We shall see.<\/p>\n<p>As to children outdoing their parents in love for and service to God&#8211;more power to &#8217;em.
