{"id":780,"date":"2007-08-15T05:40:14","date_gmt":"2007-08-15T10:40:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ocularfusion.net\/?p=780"},"modified":"2022-01-02T07:38:01","modified_gmt":"2022-01-02T12:38:01","slug":"those-sunburn-blues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ocularfusion.net\/?p=780","title":{"rendered":"Those Sunburn Blues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"90\" height=\"114\" align=\"left\" alt=\"sun.jpg\" id=\"image781\" title=\"sun.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ocularfusion.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/08\/sun.jpg\" \/>With temperatures in the triple digits this week, I had a flashback to a scene from a few years ago when our family sought relief from those sunburn blues in the form of a jazz concert at <a href=\"http:\/\/z.about.com\/d\/huntsville\/1\/0\/B\/J\/concerts2.jpg\">Big Spring Park<\/a> in Huntsville. Afterwards, the muse struck, and the result was a wee little essay (or is it a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beatnik\">beatnik<\/a> poem?) which was published in <em>The Huntsville Times<\/em> about a week later:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A simmering sun burns off the last of the July haze and slips beneath the rim of the Von Braun Center.<\/p>\n<p>Over by the Big Spring, the Grissom High School Jazz Band tunes up for its upcoming European tour in front of a hometown crowd. Hundreds are seated around the gazebo in their camp chairs and on blankets, hoping for some soothing relief from the sizzling summer heat.<\/p>\n<p>Soon, the waves of samba, salsa and swing ripple through the sweaty throng, washing away their sunburn blues. A tenor sax sings &#8220;Sultry Sunset,&#8221; and we look at each other and collectively say, &#8220;Yes, that pretty much says it all.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After a little more <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scat_singing\">scat<\/a> and some &#8220;do-wap-de-woos,&#8221; we arise, refreshed, and walk into a cooler darkness. We&#8217;re all jazzed up&#8211;and ready once again to face the angry, rising sun.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bobdenver.com\/Maynard_s_CoffeeHouse\/Welcome_to_Maynard_s\/body_welcome_to_maynard_s.html\">Maynard G. Krebs<\/a> said: Cool, man.
