Old Glory, New Blood

From “Lost Boy” of Sudan to American standard-bearer–Lopez Lomong.

I love this country.

When we are good, we can be very, very good…

UPDATE: Here’s the one I’ve been waiting for. I totally dig the Ralph Lauren throwback threads. An obvious nod to Chariots of Fire.

I love this story as well. I heard about this just after watching “The Devil Came on Horseback,” which does a great job of exposing the strong connection China has in Sudan, and their unwillingness to let the UN intervene lest their oil supply suffer.

I guess this is as close to a poke in the eye to the Chinese as the U.S. can get, for fear of them dumping all of our cash and ruining our economy even more, eh?

    Thanks for posting this, MtEG.

My pleasure. And thank you for your ongoing passion for all things African. Your photos and writings have helped keep these children of God at the forefront of our minds.

Can you believe that we’re both working for newspapers now?

    What a country!

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned the irony of my new “career move” here before, but my dad spent years being trained as a journalist, and wound up as a minister. I spent years (and tens of thousands of dollars!) preparing to be a minister, and now I’m starting to work as a journalist. I guess newspapering is in my blood, but it took 29 years to start making itself known!

That’s some serious (and expensive) irony.

But then again, I never once thought about becoming an optometrist when I was at Harding. Most people end up on a different path than the one they started out on. Your theological training will make you a better journalist.

Cross-training (so to speak) is always a good thing.
