Help Wanted, Visor Not Required

If you’re interested in following the latest Spurrier/Bama scuttlebutt, this site is probably your best source of unconfirmed rumors in the blogosphere. The folks posting and commenting there are among the most sleep-deprived and bourbon-stoked in the Bama Nation, so check it out.

But then again, maybe you’re interested in applying for the Alabama job yourself. If so, you’ll need to fill out this application. Be sure to type or print clearly.

Finally, I can state for a fact (because I heard him say it with my own ears) that former Tide center and Shula teammate Hoss Johnson has categorically denied having been contacted by the University regarding the coaching opening, despite earlier rumors that Paul Bryant, Jr.’s plane had been spotted at Huntsville International Airport.

With all the upcoming holiday parties, Hoss just couldn’t take the time away from his booming BBQ business anyway.

You’ve obviously got other things on your mind 🙂 but I hated to see this. Coming off of a loss.. great. Of course, they are in the NW, so maybe the travel to the SE will wear them down some more by Saturday…

wait… my bad. this was a home game. so no help from extra travel.

I’m hearing rumors that Houston Nutt’s agent has contacted Mal Moore to express interest in the job. I’m okay with that and he could even pass occasionally (we actually have a real quarterback as opposed to Arkansas) as long he brought McFadden with him.

As for Duke, let’s hope McRoberts and Paulus wake up before Saturday.

McFadden is not allowed to leave the state until his eligibility is up (except for games, of course. and a trip to NY next weekend. and again next year. and the next year.)

Alabama is welcome to Nutt, but not DMac.

  6. Mike the Eyeguy

Sounds like Arkansans are keeping as tight a reign on DMac as the old Soviet Union did on their athletes.

Mike, of course we are. Surely you’re not under the impression Nutt is behind the success they’ve had this year… 🙂

    Just saw this

Darren McFadden has rushed for 1,485 yards for the Razorbacks, which is more than 45 teams in Division I-A. Among the teams McFadden has personally outrushed are Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, Boston College, and Virginia Tech. He’s six yards behind Notre Dame. If Charlie Weis is indeed an offensive genius, then what does that make Gus Malzahn, who, one year ago, was coaching high school?

  9. Mike the Eyeguy

Tell Gus to give Mal Moore a call.

I guess Bama will have to search elsewhere. SOS is staying at SC. I feel sorry for the next Bama coach… but at least they’ll be paid well to lose.

Who’s on the B List? RichRod… Louie P… or is it time to call Mike Sherman?

  11. Mike the Eyeguy

Hey Philip, thanks for stopping by.

Yeah, I think he’s staying too. Which leaves us most likely with Rich Rodriguez as plan B. And not a half bad one at that. Consider this: Urban Meyer largely copies the RR-conceived spread offense at Florida, and that seems to be working pretty well for them.

But here we disagree: Alabama will not continue to lose with the next coach–Shula was as unimaginative and inexperienced as he was nice (which was very). There is no way on God’s green earth the next coach will be 26-23 after 4 years.

Say, what do they put in the food in Samoa that keeps growing all those good football players that you guys keep sending over to this way? You guys need to send a few of them to Tuscaloosa. The U. of Hawaii players who were here earlier this year sung the praises of Alabama, so spread the word, wouldya?

    Taro… it’s like Samoan steroids.

Samoans typically only settle on the West Coast, or near Army bases. Maybe Bama could offer some Polynesian basket weaving courses.

Congrats on Saban. That’s probably the best choice.
