I do it for the “Happy Juice” (aka, endorphins) and for the food.

One quart of isodrink for every 4k and my body is set.

Plus the shower. Don’t forget the shower.

Got it. Although after a run, I don’t move nearly fast enough to the shower for some members of my family.

Those wicking fabrics put off a wicked stench.

I felt like I had a breakthrough last night on my road to get back in shape. I ran approximately 4.7 miles (3 of which were at a faster pace than normal), and felt good — like I could do more. And other than a little stiffness when I woke up this morning, I feel good today.

I bet that’s a good feeling. Even though you feel good today, you should probably rest or go for a shorter distance.

A hard/easy pattern works good for me. I rest and/or crosstrain in the gym on M/W and rest completely on Friday. Tuesdays are track day, Thursdays hills, Saturdays a gentle 5-6 miler and early Sunday AM an 8-10 miler with my running buddies who usually like to push the pace toward the end. Church is at nine, and I’m rarely more than 5-10 minutes late. 🙂

Since October, my wife and I have been on the South Beach method, too, and I have been running regularly. Usually, it’s 2.75 miles in the morning with my 30+ pound 2 year old in a 30+ pound double jogging stroller. Yesterday afternoon, however, after an emotional hearing in family court for a domestic violence client, I broke off 4.5 miles, at 3:30 in the afternoon, in central Alabama, in June. I just got back from the morning run with the two year old, but we stretched it to 3.1 miles today.

    Good times.

It’s contagious! I think a 30+ 2-year-old in a 30+ lb jogging stroller qualifies as some serious crosstraining.

You play tennis, so you’re good to go on the ice cream.

ME, I’d say all those miles earns all the ice-cream and cobbler one can eat.

Great minds (and athletes) think alike…
