Was Harold your father? He died very young, didn’t he. Some of the news is sadder than others.

Aye, correct on both counts. I turn 47 this year. Now you know one of the reasons I work out so compulsively.

My grandfather died at 35, I think it was. And he was very moved by turning 35 himself. He just doubled that age in January.

Still working out? I’m doing a 20K, a HILLY 20K tomorrow. Goal? Finish, and to do so in under 1:40. Should be no problem if I don’t have a tachycardia, or sprain my ankle, or get lost, or run out of breath, or see a really nice bar on kilometer 16…

PS: I meant that MY dad was very moved when he turned 35…

The running is down some (bad case of “turf toe”), but I’m lifting more and tearing the elliptical trainer up in the gym. So, I’m fit, just not 20K fit at the moment!

Best wishes in your race. Down with tachycardia! Up with wine and cheese at rest stations (especially at 16K)!

Oh no. Last year, when you got sciatica I got it several months later. I hope this doesn’t mean I’m due for turf toe. But, now that I’m not able to run anymore it’s probably unlikely.

I had to read this post a couple of times before I understood the significance of Harold Brown’s death listed there in the middle of it. I’m sure that was tough on the family.

4/22/80 was about the beginning of Spring term at W&L my sophomore year. I can’t imagine losing my Dad at that age, or in high school as you were.

Keep tearing up that elliptical. It’s a decent workout.

I really hope you don’t get turf toe.

Embarrasing confession: I didn’t get it running, per se.

I was chasing after the Fed Ex man who was getting back in his truck (he had rung the door bell when I was in another part of the house), and I was running down the front steps when I landed with all my weight on the ball and toe of my right foot. There was a very loud “snap” which apparently is common when ligaments are torn like that. I thought I had broken it.

To make matters worse, he had left the package near the front door.

    Pathetic.
