One Game is Not Enough

USA Today’s Mike Lopresti nails it on the head this morning.

One game is not enough. Not even close. Donna Shalala, we expect more from you.

If you’ve been on another planet or under a rock the past few days, here’s the video.

So which is more disturbing: the actual fight, the crowd reaction, or the remarks of commentator Lamar Thomas (who was fired from his broadcaster’s job Monday)?

————————–

Update 10/18

President Shalala has spoken.

It’s time for the feeding frenzy to stop. These young men made a stupid, terrible, horrible mistake and they are being punished. This university will be firm and punish people that do bad things. But we will not throw any student under the bus for instant restoration for our image or reputation. I will not hang them in a public square, I will not eliminate participation. I will not take away their scholarships. They will be disciplined appropriately.

Thanks for the clarification, Donna.

And just when it seemed like Miami was going to get past that thuggery image.

When I first saw the video, one of my thoughts was: Where are the captains?

Answer: They’re out there swinging and stomping too.

Oh. Well, of course they are.

I found your blog from Elrod’s.

I still think the most amazing part of the story is that it happened on the Miami Police Department’s “Join-a-Team, Not-a-Gang” night. And no, I’m not making it up.

Hey Brian, thanks for the link and stopping by and giving me a read.

That is some mighty delicious irony.
