Cold Running Haiku

Charlie, Clay and Joe, these are for you.

As for the rest of Team Wannabe: Where were you?

Wimps.

single digit chill
icy sweat clings to my beard
wicked rugged dude

sunrise four men run
8 miles over road and trail
they live weak “men” sleep

we are a phalanx
cars on donut runs move quick
shake fists gaze in awe

ordinary daze
sunday comes wannabes run
it’s good it’s all good

rugged dude is nuts…it is too cold to run!!

What would have happened if Admiral Byrd had said, “It is too cold to sail!”

Well, we wouldn’t have all those cute penguin movies, that’s for sure.

I’m w/Donna…it’s just been FRIGID outside the past few mornings. So…which is worse? Running in the single digit temps, w/frozen sweat clinging to your beard??? Or running in late July-early August, when it’s about 110 degrees outside, and sweat is dripping all over the place???

To this deep Southern boy, cold is much worse than heat. I ran at 10:00 last night in 24 degrees, and my knees were protesting.

Sweat is good when you can just surrender to it.

Generally speaking, I prefer the cold to the heat (although yesterday was a little extreme).

Perfect running weather to me is 35-45; warm enough for shorts, but cool enough for cotton gloves, long-sleeve-t and fleece headband. I run much faster and easier in that kind of weather than in the heat.

This Wannabe Teammate was at the YMCA on the treadmill that provided a cushion for an injured foot. Ran in a comfortable low seventies temp. with no wind and no angry motorist. Hope to get back out with the team in the near future!!

    A stress fracture is a legit excuse–barely. 😉
