I’ve Been Hooked

To all you Bama and Texas Longhorn fans who stopped by yesterday (and who are still showing up today) scouring for scuttlebutt on Mike Shula’s replacement–thank you very much.

Not since the Nancy Grace/Church of Christ fiasco last March has my sitemeter sang such soaring soprano; 348 unique visitors, 597 page loads–an all-time Ocular Fusion record.

It seems that my post on Shula’s firing was hooked, so to speak, to a Texas message board mainly due to my passing on the rumor about Paul Bryant Jr.’s jet sighting in Austin and speculation over whether or not some university representative was there to pitch the Alabama job to Texas HC Mack Brown.

All of which, of course, is highly unlikely. But since bloggers are not held to the same scrupulous journalistic standards as a major media outlet like, let’s say, The New York Times, what the hey? Besides, since Texas needs a new defensive coordinator with the departure of Gene Chizik for Iowa State, maybe we could work out a deal–Joe Kines for Mack Brown, maybe?

Now that I’ve been hooked, I just hope that the eyes of Texas will remain on little ol’ Ocular Fusion for a long time to come. I may not know much about football, but if you’re looking for offbeat streams of consciousness and tales of quotidian family life, then you’ve landed in the right corral.

Don’t forget Iowa State fans. You can’t mention our new coach Chizik and expect us to look the other way!

Hey, cYCHED cLONE (love the moniker), thanks for stopping by! So now you guys are showing up too.

My father-in-law ran track for the Cyclones back in the day, so you’re welcome anytime. Hope Chizik works out well for you guys.

    Greg–

I think Grant speaks for many, but when you look deep at the numbers, you can see Mal Moore’s point as well.

Congrats on the big day for the old blog.

By the way, keep Kines as the head coach. Worked wonders for my team back in the 90s.

Thanks, Scott. I thought about you during that Ark-LSU track meet last week. I hope you survived it okay.

Answer me this: why did Coach Nutt throw four times on that last drive when McFadden clearly couldn’t be stopped?

    Mike,

Not to answer for Scott, but I’m still flabbergasted by that.

“Let’s see… QB is 3-13 on the day, rarely getting the ball close to the receiver… McFadden and Jones have over 300 yds rushing… hmmm… hey, let’s throw it!!”

Heck, McFadden threw the prettiest pass of the day on the very first drive. If they were intent on passing it, I would’ve at least let him do the honors at that point.

Okay, good, so it wasn’t just me… 🙂

Always nice to get such a huge number of hits on such a profound topic. 🙂

Laurie, I saw that game last night and how profoundly serious those Seattle fans are about their football.

It’s not just the South, although we have perfected our fervor to a fine art.
